Clinical mentoring for health practitioners

Who is this for?

Doctors, allied health professionals and mental health clinicians who want to increase their knowledge of food, sex and bodies OR integrate somatic, meditation or therapy based skills personally and/or professionally.

Dr Ashlea Broomfield, a Coffs Harbour GP who specialises in sex, body image and nutrition, is lying on her stomach writing in a notebook.

Who am I?

I’m Dr Ashlea, a Specialist General Practitioner, Psychosexual Therapist, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, Meditation Coach and Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician.

I have a specific interest, experience and training in eating disorders, sexual problems, chronic pain, stress, burnout and trauma. I understand how powerfully the mind impacts the body, and the body impacts the mind.

In my work, I combine scientific medicine and psycho-social healing, using a variety of cognitive, behavioural, emotional and somatic approaches to therapy. This includes integration of complementary modalities meditation, embodiment and ethical use of therapeutic touch within clearly established guidelines and scope of practice.

I’ve had a rich and diverse career, as a GP treating all sorts of issues with all sorts of people - following my interests and filling knowledge gaps to better care for the complex needs of the people I work with.

Throughout it all, I’ve been a staunch advocate for the health and wellbeing of doctors. I’ve spent many years in GP advocacy addressing the systemic and personal issues that arise.

I now own a private practice in Wiigula (Woolgoolga) on Gumbaynggirr Country, where I offer Mind-Body Therapy as well as a 9-month 1:1 program, Vitality Medicine.

I hold my Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a Fellowship with the Australian Society of Psychological Medicine, a Masters Degree in Psychosexual Therapy and a Professional Diploma in Medical Nutrition Management. In addition I hold a certificate as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, have professional recognition as a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician (Mental Health) and am a Meditation Coach recognised by the Meditation Association of Australia.

What can I support you with?

  • Learning how to enhance your consultations with personal application of meditation, embodiment and somatic skills, including how to use these integrative and complementary tools for yourself, and providing mentoring around integrating them within evidence-based treatment models and your scope of practice.

  • Increasing your clinical knowledge about eating disorders, sexual problems or working with illnesses that have an effect on the person's experience of their body (like fibromyalgia, chronic pain, etc.).

  • Guiding you through the process of changing or shifting focus in your career. I radically transformed the way I worked – from the type of support I offered, to the hours I worked and the tools I used – and I’m always open to sharing that process and offering guidance.

  • Embracing further study and learning – whether that’s discussing the books I’ve read, courses I’ve taken or mentorship I’ve received, or brainstorming ideas. I’ve dedicated much of my time to expanding my knowledge and I’m happy to share the tools that resonated with me most, or find new ones with you.

How does it work?

We’ll start with a complimentary cuppa and a chat so we can get to know each other and decide if we are a good fit.

Then we can meet in person at my private practice eluceo in Woolgoolga or over Healthdirect. Sessions will be led by your interests, goals and needs.

I can provide the necessary paperwork so you submit this mentoring as part of Educational Activities (EA) Reviewing Performance (RP) or Measuring Outcomes (MO) for your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and associated invoices for your bookkeeping.

Costs:

90 minute sessions |  $500 +GST
60 minute sessions |  $335 +GST
